Frigidaire Air Conditioners, Dehumidifiers

Frigidaire reputation and history

The logo of Frigidaire

Frigidaire is an American brand that was founded a century ago in Indiana. While first developing refrigerators and freezing elements, it quickly branched into air products, developing its first room air conditioner before the start of the second World War.

After the war, in addition to manufacturing room air conditioners, Frigidaire also provided commercial and industrial air conditioners, such as factory air conditioning systems for General Motors automobiles (William C. Durant, a founder of General Motors, personally invested in the budding company). It has been described as the Samsonite of air products, for its reliability and sense of hegemony on the market.

Frigidaire air conditioning and dehumidification units developed a reputation for providing excellent air conditioning systems on virtually all GM cars. Today, Frigidaire’s home air conditioners and dehumidifiers are known for their sturdiness and efficiency.

The vast majority of the firm’s manufacturing still takes place on the American continent: Frigidaire has factories in Tenessee, as well as in Northern Mexico. Yet, the company is now a division of the Swedish company Electrolux, which gives its product a touch of class and additional reliability.

Fun fact : the company is still identified to its first product. Still to this day, in French, any refrigerator is commonly called a “Frigidaire”, or “Frigo” for short.
