Description of the 203 by Blueair
To begin with, the Blueair 203 utilizes the HEPASilent filtration technology. This mechanism captures a wide variety of airborne pollutants to ensure that your room remains clean and fresh at all times.
How effective is this technology? The HEPASilent filtration is capable of capturing up to 99.97% of airborne pollutants. In addition, this mechanism captures minute particles that are as small as 0.3 microns. In case you have been struggling to eliminate pollen, dust, pet dander, and other particulate matter from your room, then this is a suitable solution for you.
The HEPASilent filtration technology utilizes a blend of mechanical and electrostatic filtration to ensure that airborne particles have no chances of sneaking to your nostrils. To ensure that you don’t forget to replace the filter, this unit features a magnet timer that alerts the user to replace a worn out filter. Replacing the old filter with a new one helps to enhance the effectiveness of your unit.
What is the size of your room? In case your room is smaller than 240 square feet, then the Blueair 203 is a suitable solution for your air purification needs. In addition, this air cleaner offers a CADR rating of 155 and circulates air five times per hour to ensure that every part of your room has fresh and clean air. For better performance, you should ensure that the unit is placed a few inches from the wall.
Although the manufacturer indicates that the unit runs quietly, we have noted that the fan produces some noises especially on medium and high settings. Nevertheless, some users are comfortable with the white noise since it masks other sounds from the background.
Our research has revealed that most air purifier produce an irritating smell when they are used for the first time. We noted that this unit produces the smell too but it does not last for long. In case you find that the smell is irritating, you can let the unit to run for one or two days in an open space environment before positioning it in your room.
Although this unit has a sleek design, we have noted that it is not strongly built. The bulk unit vibrates excessively and cases of missing bolts have been reported. These design flaws are likely to make the unit noisier than it should be. Regarding its durability, we have noted that there are complains of the unit failing after running for just months… Not a very good sign.

Although this unit is not quite as quiet as the 400 series Blueair, the 400 series is quite a bit larger and looks like a big huge computer tower. The 200 series is a nicer size and looks more like an air purifier. The sound from the 200 series can actually be quite soothing in terms of helping you to sleep and relax. In my fairly small bedroom, both units seemed to perform equally so I opted for the 203W since it looks better, was cheaper and the filters are a bit cheaper as well. The Blueair 203 includes an electronic filter change timer as well. I recommend this unit for the price-the air seems a whole lot fresher and cleaner and my allergies have been alleviated. I do wish it had one lower setting that was slightly quieter though the lowest setting is by no means loud and most people would not even notice it at all if you had it on in a room and the unit was out of sigh or something like that."
Works great! Sucks the smoke out of the air quickly!"
