Practical, efficient, handy and inexpensive, space heating is a safe heating system. It can in no way replace central heating but, because of its complementarity, it is often essential.
Space heating is, by definition, an independent heating appliance that operates independently. It nevertheless remains complementary to central heating, allowing the temperature to be adjusted according to the season and its needs. In the fall, when it is too early to turn on the central heating, space heaters will be enough to heat a living room or bedroom when temperatures drop. In general, this equipment, which can easily be installed, moved, removed or switched off during the day, is useful whenever there is a need to heat without restarting the central heating.

Frequently asked questions about the Best Space Heater
Why use space heaters?
As its name suggests, a space heater provides the excess heat necessary to make the temperature of a room pleasant during the time it is used. It is usually used during the evening to heat a living room or bedroom and turned off before going to bed. They can also be used to heat rooms that benefit from being warmer than the rest of the house, such as a bathroom. In this case, the space heating is switched on before the room is used so that the heat is pleasant when taking a shower or bath.
A space heater can also be an ideal solution for heating attics or parts of the house that are not regularly used, such as an extension or a workshop. In some cases, this may be a more economical method than installing radiators connected to the central heating system.
Auxiliary heaters are not among the most economical and it is advisable to turn them off during the day or when there is no one in the dwelling. However, there are space heaters that are efficient enough to heat small dwellings in their entirety. For a studio, student rooms, two-room apartments, or even small houses, space heating can become permanent heating.
What are associated risks?
Space heating can be used as a replacement for a main heating system. However, here is a list of the problems that can result from continuous space heaters in dwellings:
- Respiratory diseases, asthma
- Poisoning (due to “kerosene stove” type appliances that do not have an outside chimney outlet)
- Increased humidity, saltpetre and bad smells
- Accumulation of pollutants in the air (due to the caulking of housing and therefore to the lack of ventilation)
- High risk of burns and fires (due to permanent use of unsecured electrical systems or stoves)
